Wave’s AI-powered scanner lets you digitize paper business cards and event badges. Point your camera at a card or badge, and Wave automatically extracts the contact information and saves it to your contacts. Any contact you scan will be enriched.

What You Can Capture

The scanner can digitize three types of source:
  • Business card: a paper business card
  • QR code: the QR code from a digital business card or LinkedIn profile
  • Event badge: a conference or trade show badge

How It Works

At a trade show or conference, you don’t need the official lead-retrieval app or a stack of business cards. Just your phone. Scan a business card, an attendee badge, or the QR code of a LinkedIn or digital profile, all from within Wave. Wave instantly reads the details, creates the contact record, enriches the lead to fill in the blanks, and syncs everything to your CRM in real time. Instead of manually typing names, emails, companies, and notes after a long conference day, it’s already organized for you. All the scanner needs is a first name, last name, and company. From there it automatically enriches the phone, email, title, LinkedIn profile, and more. You can even scan past photos of business cards to digitize and enrich older contacts.

Add Context While It’s Fresh

You’re not just storing contact information. Add tags, notes, and context from the conversation while it’s still top of mind. Maybe someone was interested in pricing, wanted a demo next month, or was asking about enterprise deployment. That context stays attached to the lead, making your follow-ups faster, more personalized, and more effective.

Scanning a QR Code

Point your camera at a QR code to capture the contact behind it. This works with the QR code from any digital business card, including Wave, Popl, Blinq, and HiHello, as well as LinkedIn profile QR codes.
Some event badges use a proprietary QR code that the scanner can’t read. For those badges, use the Event badge option instead.

Scanning Event Badges

The badge scanner works the same way as the business card scanner. Point your camera at a conference or event badge and Wave captures the attendee’s details.

Accuracy Tips

For the best scanning results:
  • Use good lighting: avoid shadows and glare
  • Hold the card flat and steady
  • Make sure all text is within the camera frame
  • Use a plain background behind the card
