Founder, Wave Connect | Helped law firms with 500+ attorneys deploy digital business cards

I've worked with law firms across the country to roll out digital business cards - from solo practitioners to Am Law 100 firms. Attorneys exchange more business cards per capita than almost any other profession, and the conference circuit is where most of that happens. This is the legal event calendar I wish existed when I started.

If you're looking for legal conferences in 2026, you're in the right place. I put together the most complete calendar of legal conferences, trade shows, bar events, and legal tech expos happening across the United States this year - organized by category so you can find exactly what matches your practice area and interests.

Whether you're in litigation, legal technology, immigration, intellectual property, or firm management, there's an event on this list for you. I've seen firsthand how much value legal professionals get from these events - not just the CLE credits, but the client referrals, co-counsel relationships, and vendor evaluations that happen between sessions. If you're bringing your firm's attorneys, Wave Connect's team platform makes it easy to deploy branded digital business cards for everyone before you go. And if you want to maximize your conference ROI, I wrote a detailed guide on how to capture leads at trade shows that applies to any professional event.

Here's every major legal event in the U.S. for 2026.

What's in This Guide

  • 20+ events: Every major legal conference, trade show, and bar event in the U.S. for 2026

How to Use This Guide

I organized every event by category - major national conferences, legal technology, litigation, marketing, practice-specific, and state bar events - so you can zero in on what matters most to your practice. Each event card includes the same details: dates, location, cost, CLE credit availability, what to expect, and a direct link to register.

One tip: bookmark this page. I update it monthly as new events are announced, prices change, or dates shift. If you're planning to attend multiple events this year, I'd also recommend reading my guide on digital business cards for lawyers and the best lawyer business card guide - they cover everything from design to networking etiquette for legal professionals.

State bar annual meetings are often the most accessible and practical conferences available to attorneys. They're typically more affordable than national events, closer to home, and focused on jurisdiction-specific law and local networking.

NYSBA Annual Meeting 2026

The Hilton Midtown location keeps it in the heart of Manhattan.

Beyond NYSBA, major state bar annual meetings happen throughout the year. I've worked with hundreds of law firms on their conference strategy, and the attorneys who get the most value share a few habits. Here's what separates a productive conference from an expensive vacation:

Before the Conference

  • Map your CLE needs first. Know exactly which credits you need for your jurisdiction before you register. Build your agenda around the sessions that count toward recertification - everything else is a bonus.
  • Pre-schedule meetings. The most productive attendees set up 3-5 meetings before they arrive. Use the event app or LinkedIn to connect with people you want to meet. Conference hallways are crowded, and relying on chance encounters wastes time.
  • Get your digital business card ready. Update your bar number, practice areas, and contact info. At legal conferences, I've seen attorneys exchange 30-50 cards in a single day. A digital card means every one of those contacts actually gets saved and followed up on.
  • Research the sponsor list. If you're evaluating technology or service providers, the sponsor and exhibitor list tells you who'll be there. Schedule vendor demos in advance so you're not waiting in line at the booth.

During the Conference

  • Prioritize the smaller sessions. Keynotes are inspiring, but the real learning happens in breakout sessions and workshops with 30-50 people. You can ask questions, participate in discussions, and make connections that don't happen in a room of 2,000.
  • Track your CLE credits in real time. Don't wait until the last day to figure out what you attended. Most conferences provide a credit tracking system - use it as you go.
  • Network at social events. The evening receptions, dinners, and social gatherings are where the best relationships form. Attorneys are more relaxed, conversations go deeper, and you learn things that never get discussed in formal sessions.

After the Conference

  • Follow up within 48 hours. Send a brief email or LinkedIn request to everyone you connected with while the conversation is still fresh. Reference something specific you discussed - it makes the follow-up memorable.
  • Submit your CLE credits promptly. Don't let paperwork sit. Submit your credits to your state bar within a week of the conference while you still have your attendance records organized.
  • Brief your firm. Share the 3-5 most valuable takeaways with your partners and colleagues. This multiplies the value of your attendance and positions you as a thought leader within your firm.

Frequently Asked Questions

The ABA Annual Conference (Chicago, July-August) is the largest by scope, covering every practice area. For legal technology specifically, Legalweek New York (March, 6,000+ attendees) is the biggest. For trial lawyers, the AAJ Annual Convention (July, Chicago) is the largest gathering of plaintiff attorneys.

Prices range from $350 (state bar meetings) to $3,000+ (Legalweek premium passes). Most national legal conferences fall in the $800-$1,500 range. ABA TECHSHOW runs $800-$1,500, AAJ conventions $800-$1,500, and practice-specific events like NAELA $875-$975. Early registration can save 20-40%. Many firms cover conference expenses as professional development.

Can I earn CLE credits at these conferences?

Yes - nearly every legal conference listed here offers CLE/MCLE credits. ABA TECHSHOW, ILTACON, and the AAJ conventions offer extensive CLE programming. AILA's Annual Conference features 90+ CLE-eligible sessions alone. Always verify credit approval for your specific jurisdiction, as CLE requirements vary by state.

A digital business card (or NFC card), a portable charger, comfortable shoes, business cards if you still use them, and a notebook. For CLE-heavy events, bring your bar number and jurisdiction information for credit tracking. A light jacket is essential - convention centers are notoriously cold.

Generally yes - registration fees, travel, meals, and lodging for legal conferences directly related to your practice are deductible as business expenses. CLE requirements add further justification. As always, consult your tax advisor for your specific situation. Many firms also reimburse conference costs as professional development expenses.

What's the difference between ABA TECHSHOW and Legalweek?

ABA TECHSHOW ($800-$1,500, Chicago) is more practitioner-focused and affordable, ideal for solo and small firm attorneys learning to use technology. Legalweek ($1,500-$3,000, New York) is larger, covers the broader business of law, and attracts more enterprise-level firms and vendors. Both offer CLE credits. If you're a small firm looking to modernize, start with TECHSHOW. If you're evaluating enterprise legal tech, Legalweek has a broader vendor landscape.

Pre-schedule meetings, attend the social events (not just the CLE sessions), and follow up within 48 hours. Legal conferences are uniquely valuable for building referral relationships and finding co-counsel. A digital business card makes the exchange seamless - contacts scan a QR code and instantly have your bar number, practice areas, and contact info saved.

Many do - AILA, SHRM-related legal events, and several ABA programs offer virtual or hybrid options. ClioCon and Legalweek have offered virtual components in recent years. Virtual attendance is typically cheaper but misses the networking component that makes in-person legal conferences so valuable for referral building.

Create a free digital business card before your next event. Share via QR code, NFC tap, or link - no app required for you or your contacts. Deploy cards for your entire law firm in minutes with bulk Excel import.
